Primary Purpose:
A substitute teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student
learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma
Completion of the Kennedale ISD application process, including substitute orientation.
Interpersonal skills to work well with children, parents, and staff.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1.    Report to the campus office upon arriving at the school.
2.    Follow lessons and duties developed by the classroom teacher and present in a manner that students understand.
3.    Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
4.    Establish and maintain control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies,
administrative regulations, campus policies and rules.
5.    Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
6.     Maintain a cooperative, professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
7.     Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
8.     Spend the entire assignment working with and for the students.
9.     No personal work of any kind should be done.
10.   Accept jobs and perform effectively on a consistent basis.
11.   Maintain prompt and regular attendance for each substitute assignment.
12.   Maintain confidentiality.
13.   Demonstrates ethical behavior.
14.   Perform other tasks and duties as assigned. 
15.   Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used:
Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment.
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Frequent walking.
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) may lift and move text books and classroom equipment.
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.

Paraprofessional Substitute Assignment | Pay Rates
All Para Assignments                               $80.00 per full day                        $40.00 per ½ day

Professional Substitute Teaching Assignment | Pay Rates
Non-Degreed                                            $100.00 per full day                       $50.00 per ½ day
Degreed (Bachelors or higher)               $110.00 per full day                       $55.00 per ½ day
Certified Teacher                                      $120.00 per full day                       $60.00 per ½ day
Retired Certified Teacher                        $130.00 per full day                       $65.00 per ½ day
Long Term Assignments      Additional $10.00 per day of assignment, after working 10 or more consecutive school days

Long Term Substitute Pay
Long-term assignments are those in which the teacher substitutes for any KISD teacher for 10 or more consecutive school
days.  Long-term assignments that are for the same teacher for 10 or more consecutive days shall be established prior to the
beginning of the assignment.

Should a break in service occur, the pay reverts back to the standard substitute pay until the substitute works another 10 or
more consecutive school days.

Salary : $100 - $130
