What is an Optical Technician?
As an Optical Technician at Kennedy Eyecare, you will play a crucial role in supporting our patients' eye health by assisting our optometrists during the exam process, and conducting preliminary tests and measurements to aid in accurate diagnosis and prescription. Additionally, you will contribute to maintaining the organization and cleanliness of pretesting and exam rooms, ensuring a seamless and pleasant experience for our patients. This role requires a friendly and helpful demeanor, excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a genuine passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities and Duties
As an Optical Technician at Kennedy Eyecare, you will be responsible for the following:
- Assisting patients with a warm and friendly demeanor, ensuring a positive experience.
- Conducting preliminary tests and measurements to assist the optometrists and opticians.
- Informing patients of preliminary test benefits and costs.
- Coordinating with the optometrists, opticians, and other team members to ensure efficient patient care.
- Keeping the exam and pretesting areas clean, organized, and visually appealing.
- Performing tasks such as data entry, filing, and record maintenance.
- Medical and vision coding and scribing.

This is an entry-level position. Training will be provided upon hire. However, there are a few traits we'd like you to have:

What You Will Learn
At Kennedy Eyecare, we provide on-the-job paid training for all positions. Upon hire, you will be trained by various team members along with your appropriate department lead and will receive periodic reviews over a 90 day period. As an Optical Technician, you will learn:
- All aspects of our practice management system, including our appointment calendar, appointment types, prescriptions, and records
- Medical and vision coding for billing and insurance purposes
- How to operate necessary equipment
- All exam and pretesting procedures
- Our policies and procedures for all appointments and visits

Location and Commitments
- This position is primarily for our McAlester location, but travel to work at our other locations will be involved.
- All employees may be occasionally required to travel to any Kennedy Eyecare location for training or for various occasions at any time during their employment.
