What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Superintendent position at Kennedy Richter Construction?
KRC is seeking a skilled and experienced Superintendent to lead and supervise construction activities on-site. Superintendents are responsible for managing day-to-day operations, ensuring project(s) are completed on time and within budget, while upholding KRCs core values (Creativity/Communication/Quality). The ideal candidate will have strong leadership abilities, extensive hands-on experience in construction, and a deep understanding of building codes and industry regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project Planning: Oversee and direct all on-site construction activities, ensuring that work is performed according to project plans, specifications, and safety standards. Review project startup packet, plans, submittals, and project specifications with internal project team to ensure Team knowledge prior to project mobilization. Identify scope gaps and areas of concern in project documents, schedule, and construction processes.
- Scheduling & Communication: Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and overall project schedules. Ensure the timely completion of project milestones and resolve delays or issues that may arise on-site. Oversee the logistics and delivery of materials, tools, and equipment. Ensure that the project has the resources necessary to keep work moving smoothly and efficiently. Maintain open and clear communication with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders. Provide regular progress updates, address concerns, and manage expectations.
- Execution: Supervise and coordinate the work of subcontractors, tradespeople, and laborers on-site. Foster a positive and productive team environment, ensuring collaboration between all parties involved. Manage subcontractor performance and schedules, ensuring they meet project timelines, safety standards, and quality expectations. Proactively identify issues on the construction site and implement effective solutions. Work closely with the project manager to resolve any delays, material shortages, or technical challenges.
- Quality & Safety: Perform regular checklists and inspections of work to ensure quality standards are met. Identify and address any issues related to workmanship or compliance with design specifications. Enforce safety protocols on-site and conduct regular safety meetings and inspections. Ensure compliance with all OSHA guidelines, company policies, and industry regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of daily activities, progress reports, safety inspections, and other site-specific documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 4 years of experience in construction, with at least 2 year in a supervisory or superintendent role. Proven experience managing commercial or residential construction projects.
- Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes. Familiarity with construction management software (Procore). In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA standards. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full-time position with occasional overtime required to meet project deadlines.
- This role is primarily based on construction sites, requiring a combination of office and outdoor work.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, construction noise, and physical labor.
- Travel between project sites may be required.
