Kenneth Young Center offers several different clinical opportunities and is now accepting applications for the August 2025- May 2026 academic year. We will begin to accept applications mid-December and will be doing several rounds of interviews January-February.  We are proud to offer a scholarship to our student interns. We are seeking interns for the following programs: Adult Outpatient, Child & Adolescent Outpatient, SASS/Mobile Crisis Response, Behavioral Health Recovery. Only one application is needed to be considered for all programs. Each program requires a minimum of twenty hours per week. Job Scope: Join a diverse team of counselors and social workers providing mental health services in a collaborative and welcoming community outpatient setting. Engage clients in therapeutic and case management services aimed at increasing supporting clients in creating a life worth living, stabilizing and improving mental health symptoms, and functioning independently in the community. Behavioral Health Interns are required to intern a minimum of twenty hours per week; however, school programs may vary with this requirement. Internships run from August-May.
 
Primary Responsibilities
  • Engage clients in mental health assessment and treatment plan reassessments that identify service needs and recommend options for care.
  • Share assessment findings with clients and their families.
  • Involve client and their families in the development of treatment plan goals, objectives and interventions that address their assessed behavioral health needs.
  • Provide individual, family and group therapy services. Some teams might require more of a specific therapeutic service/modality, depending on client and team’s needs.
  • Provide case management services to assist clients and their families with access to needed benefits and services
  • Provide coordinated care by initiating or participating in client centered consultation with other internal and external providers involved in care or services.
  • Assist the intake department with coverage and by assisting with opening clients to the agency and making referrals, when appropriate.
  • Assist in establishing effective communication between the Center, other social agencies serving clients, and the community
Performance Requirements
  • Work cooperatively with behavioral health team members to assure clients timely access to quality services
  • Meet agency quality and compliance standards by accurately completing clinical documentation and service reporting in a timely manner.
  • Meet or exceed service productivity target.
  • Implement evidenced based practices to ensure use of effective and efficient treatment that best address client needs
  • Participation in Staff training and development seminars
  • Working cooperatively with other Center teams and programs to maintain smooth continuity of care when cases are shared across teams
  • Become familiar with and utilization of outside resources as needed to provide comprehensive services to clients
  • Participate in individual supervision with direct supervisor and in regular performance appraisals as directed
  • Participate in group supervision with intern cohort
Education and Experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or University in Psychology, Social Work, or closely related discipline required.
  • Must be in an accredited graduate program and in a Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling program, or closely related discipline
  • Must have basic computer and keyboarding skills.
Schedule
  • Schedule will vary depending on program needs and interns’ schedules, with two days being prime time (evenings and/or evening and a Saturday)
  • Must intern a minimum of 20 hours per week, however, some school programs might have a higher requirement
