This is a long-term substitute position beginning in August 2025 - January 2026.
Kennett Consolidated School District is seeking an engaging, creative, counselor to work with kindergarten students, who will nurture, prepare, and empower ALL students and staff to succeed in their academic, social, and emotional journey. A counselor who exhibits a belief in the importance of relationships and resiliency through a student-centered approach will be able to successfully support the district’s mission and vision.
Kennett's uniquely diverse student population makes applicants considered to be fluent or bilingual highly sought. Applicants with at least three (3) Spanish courses at the college/university level or who have a command of conversational Spanish are encouraged to apply.
POSITION TITLE: Long-Term Substitute School Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS:
PA Certification as a school counselor
Spanish speakers preferred
School Counseling experience preferred
Must have a clear criminal background on all PA required clearances (Act 34, Act 114, Act 151 & Act 168)
OVERVIEW: Provide school counseling services at the elementary level in the areas of individual and group counseling; consultation and coordination with families and staff, crisis intervention, and participation in classroom lessons and district programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Intervene in crisis situations and assist in defining crises.
- Counsel individually and in groups.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers in order to help foster student academic, personal, and social growth.
- Consult and coordinate with families, staff, community agencies or other school district services.
- Conduct classroom guidance lessons.
- Participate in the Response to Intervention process.
- Assist in developing behavior management plans for individuals and classrooms.
- Facilitate the development of conflict resolution and peer mediation skills.
- Participate in multidisciplinary and individual educational planning teams.
- Assist in placing/grouping students.
- Assist with standardized testing.
- Work closely with school psychologist.
- Other duties as assigned.
