Kennett Consolidated School District is seeking a dynamic counselor who will nurture, prepare, and empower ALL students and staff to succeed in their academic, social, and emotional journey. A counselor who exhibits a belief in the importance of relationships and resiliency through a student-centered approach will be able to successfully support the district’s mission and vision.

POSITION TITLE: School Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS:

Certified as a school counselor (7-12 or K-12 in PA)

Spanish speakers preferred.

Teaching experience preferred.

School Counseling experience preferred.

Demonstrated success in mediation & relationship building.

Understanding of and belief in restorative practices.

Must have a clear criminal background on all 3 PA required clearances.
OVERVIEW: The school guidance program assists students in becoming responsible adults. Career plans are developed, reviewed, and updated periodically in accordance with students’ post graduation educational and occupational goals. Continuous attention is given to assisting students to develop competence in decision-making, career planning, working with others, and taking responsibility for their own behavior. Individual student assessments as well as recommendations for supports regarding mental health of students is also an integral part of the position.
This position, in particular, will work closely with high school administration in the oversight of the Pathways program at Kennett High School. Experience with Chapter 339, Act 39 of 2018 and Act 55 of 2017 is critical. The successful candidate for this position should have experience with career placement and experience in a CTE setting. Experience as a Transitions Coordinator/Counselor or Job Coach would also be beneficial.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Implement the guidance curriculum.

Work with administration on supporting the Pathways program.

Working with students to gain insight on career searches and career readiness.
- Assist Pathways program students in job placement during the school year and after graduation if needed.

Guide and counsel groups of individual students through the development of educational and career plans.

Counsel small groups and individual students with problems.

Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.

Refer students with severe problems to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents.

Supporting the overall district’s educational program through general consultation activities and committee work.

Assist with the placement of students in appropriate career and educational settings.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Attend all meetings and training sessions as directed.

Assist administrators with the distribution and interpretation of standardized tests scores for students and parents.

Facilitate informational evening sessions for parents regarding financial aid, Advanced Placement coursework, and college night, as directed.
- Coordinate 504 plans.

Attend IEP and 504 meetings according to caseload.

Other duties as assigned.
