Job Description
Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Social Work required, MSW preferred
Reports to: Director of Health Services
Responsibilities
The School Social Worker (SSW) is responsible for providing a vital link for the home, school, and community. This position is grant-funded and follows the guidelines of the Stronger Connections Grant. The SSW is charged with increasing access to mental health services, SEL learning supports, establishing and participating in MTSS for students. The SSW will be required to attend professional development, participate in parent and family engagement activities, and work with building administration to improve school climate and culture. As part of the educational team of teachers, parents, administrators, school-age children, student services staff, nurses, speech and language pathologists, the SSW promotes and supports student’s academic and social success by providing specialized services. A SSW identifies factors that can make a school a more successful experience for students. A SSW interprets the influences of the school, home and community on school-age children.
Goal
The School Social Worker will plan a program that responds to energizing trends that stress prevention, early intervention, school readiness, parent education, service integration for children from birth through secondary education.
Evaluation
Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education/Superintendent’s policy for the evaluation of staff.
Position Responsibilities
- Participates as a resource person on The Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)Framework/Student Assistance Teams for students.
- Participates in multi-agency meetings for individual students and their families.
- Conducts home visits to better access the needs of at-risk children and their families.
- Develops and implements individualized plans for children and their families to address their needs and enhancement of school success.
- Schedule follow-up sessions with student assistance teams as needed to evaluate the progress of the child and their family.
- Keep progress notes for each family being served.
- Reports child abuse and neglect situations as required by state statute.
- Collaborates with community agencies and organizations.
- Obtains community and regional resources to help meet school-age children’s needs.
- Coordinates services for individual families.
- Follows the Standards of Competence and Professional Practice set forth by the National Association of Social Workers.
- Promotes student access to mental health services.
- Collaborates with AWARE grant staff regarding mental health services.
- Monitors attendance, discipline, etc and makes referrals to agencies as appropriate.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
