This position will be temporary for the spring baseball season. Continuation of this position based on student need. Non-bargaining unit members will earn the substitute rate of pay and will not earn seniority.

 

For current bargaining unit members: These temporary hours may not interfere with your contracted time in any way. Those who would have to miss contracted time for these hours will not be considered.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION 


The paraeducator in this position will support a student with a disability during after school sport activities. Afternoon, evening and Saturdays will be a required part of the paraeducator’s schedule. This paraeducator will be responsible for supporting the student during the chosen sport activity, ensuring the student’s safety. The paraeducator in this position will be required to carry an automatic electronic defibrillator (AED) machine and be comfortable using it should the situation present itself. Training will be provided if necessary. This paraeducator must also be CPR certified. This paraeducator must be able to attend all sports practices and games with the student. Riding the bus with the student will be required.

 

The tentative schedule for this position is 3 PM – 5:30 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday and Saturday have the potential for longer days, potentially between the times of 10 AM and 7 PM due to out-of-town games. This is not a guaranteed schedule and is subject to change.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

  1. Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
  3. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  5. Must pass a basic skills test.
  6. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  7. Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

 

  1. Must be able to assist with administering the use of an automatic electronic defibrillator (AED) machine.
  2. Must be CPR certified.
  3. Required academic skills to assist students (i.e. knowledge in sciences, language arts, math, reading and social studies).
  4. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  5. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  6. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  7. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  8. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  9. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  10. Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  11. Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

  1. Recent experience working in a K-12 environment with students with academic and special needs.
  2. Ability to relate effectively with children.
  3. Cope with unpredictability; be flexible, diplomatic and cooperative.
  4. Demonstrate patience, enthusiasm and positive attitude toward working with elementary education students.
  5. Maintain composure in difficult situations.
  6. Value the confidential nature of sensitive student’s information.
  7. Able to work independently and carry out assigned tasks.
  8. Able to operate computer and other equipment as necessary.
  9. Effectively communicates and develops relationships with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community.
  10. Strong interpersonal skills necessary to work with small instructional student groups, one on one, and in a student assessment environment. 
  11. Able and willing to work in team setting and different instruction as guided.
  12. Able to relate effectively with students who have a variety of needs and challenges and backgrounds.
  13. Willingness to attend building and district instructional trainings, protocols and procedures. Willing to follow all district policies and procedures, especially in the area of instruction and assessment.
  14. Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
  15. Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Assist with the health needs of assigned student, including administering CPR and/or use of automatic electronic defibrillator (AED) during sport activities.
  2. Attend all sports practices and games with assigned student.
  3. Prepare instructional materials as requested.
  4. Participate in staff and program in-services.
  5. Maintain records as necessary.
  6. Carry out plans and activities for students as designed by the reading specialist and classroom teacher.
  7. Work cooperatively with parents, staff and students.
  8. Provide clerical assistance as needed.
  9. Assist in providing supervision of students in order to provide a safe, orderly, positive learning environment.
  10. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
  11. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.
