Location: MTS Building/Print Shop

Hours: 8 Hours per Day, 260 Days per Year

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Print Shop Lead will be responsible for overseeing daily print shop operations including the coordination of print requests and production workflow to maximize print shop efficiency. This position will serve as the print shop’s point-of-contact and assist district staff with their production needs in a positive and helpful manner. Assist IT in training district staff in production procedures and the use of the on-line printing system. Serve as the liaison between the IT department, copier and software vendors, and the Purchasing Manager and assist with trouble shooting mechanical and software printing issues. Administer copy stock as needed for production, track copy stock usage, assist with monthly paper inventory counts, and requisition paper orders to replenish copy stock as needed. The Print Shop Lead will be responsible for processing postal mail, maintaining postal equipment and procuring postage for all district mailing needs. This position requires forklift certification and will be responsible for pulling copy stock. The Print Shop Lead may be asked to cover district receiving as needed in the absence of available warehouse staff.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must pass a basic skills test.
  3. Demonstrate competencies in both verbal and written forms of communication.
  4. Demonstrate computer proficiency.
  5. Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire, if applicable.
  6. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  7. Must pass a background check, which includes employee-paid fingerprinting.
  8. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

 

  1. A valid Washington driver’s license, personal transportation covered with a current insurance policy and clean driving record as evidenced by a Driver Abstract.
  2. Must possess or acquire Forklift Certification.
  3. Demonstrate technological skills associated with production copiers, controllers, collators and duplicators, as well as printing and billing software.
  4. Ability to approach assigned work in a positive and professional manner.
  5. Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with management, IT department, and vendors.
  6. Must be able to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with fellow employees, district staff and management.
  7. Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
  8. Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, and self-discipline.
  9. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  10. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  11. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as directed by management.
  12. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, district staff members and vendors.
  13. Must be able to use basic and intermediate computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information, read and respond to email, as well as trouble shoot production machines and software.

 

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

 

  1. Minimum of two years’ experience in a printing department or commercial print shop/copy center. Education/training in printing may substitute for some experience.
  2. Minimum of five years’ experience in a position requiring coordination of operations activities.
  3. Previous experience safely operating forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks.
  4. Previous experience in logistics.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Operate production equipment including, but not limited to, copiers, duplicator, folder, collator, paper cutter, and padding machine.
  2. Oversee everyday print shop operation.
  3. Operate and oversee all district postal mail, maintain mail equipment and postage.
  4. Serve as the customer service contact and positively assist district staff with their production needs.
  5. Coordinate the completion of district printing requests and provide feedback to district staff in a positive and helpful manner.
  6. Act as liaison with the Purchasing Manager, IT department, copier reps and software customer service to ensure production equipment is running at maximum efficiency.
  7. Become proficient in use and maintenance for all production machines and on-line software systems, assist with upgrades and trouble-shoot complications as needed.
  8. Assist with training district staff on-line ordering procedures.
  9. Audit outgoing materials for accuracy, quality and content including Copyright infringement and keep releases on file.
  10. Tracking and replenishing paper/copy supplies as needed (may require operation of forklift, pallet jacks and hand trucks).
  11. Assist with monthly paper inventory count.
  12. Requisition copy stock orders to maintain inventory for production and district warehouse distribution (may require operation of forklift, pallet jacks and hand trucks).
  13. Cover receiving when warehouse staff is unavailable (may require operation of forklift, pallet jacks and hand trucks).
  14. Assist the Purchasing Manager and IT department with improvement to equipment and processes to maximize production efficiency.
  15. Performs all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
  16. Read, interpret and help compose documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by the Purchasing Manager.

  • Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts; may be exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee will occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may on occasion be loud and require hearing protection.
