CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
Must pass a basic skills test.
Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students and staff
Required academic skills to assist students (, language arts, math, reading and social studies).
Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement
Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
Must be willing to become first-aid certified if required.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
Bilingual English / Spanish oral skills. High level of literacy in both written and oral Spanish.
Recent experience working with student of diverse ethnic background
Able to relate effectively with children in a bilingual / bicultural setting
Proficient in providing supplemental reading instruction
Knowledge of second language acquisition, effective ESL strategies and methods.
Able to follow directions from supervising teach and carry out prescribed instructional management program.
Able to model appropriate behaviors and consistent intervention procedures with students.
Able and willing to work in a team setting.
Able to use office equipment, including keyboarding and data processing. Able to utilize computer and basic functions.
Effectively communicates and develops relationship with students, teachers, administrators, parents and public.
Able to work with interruptions while balancing daily responsibilities.
Able to monitor student progress under teacher supervision.
Evidence of ability to be a self-starter.
Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with instruction as directed by certificated staff using developmentally appropriate activities.
Participate in assessment activities.
Prepare instructional materials as requested.
Participate in staff in-service training, meetings, and activities.
Maintain records as necessary for efficient procedures and evaluation.
Maintain professionalism by being confidential with all school-related information.
Act as interpreter / translator for conferences, parent meetings and written
Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner. Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior.
Interact with people and speak in a manner that reflects community standards of politeness, civility and human sensitivity.
Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor pertaining to job classification.
Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
