NOW HIRING: Elementary Achievers Teacher
Elementary Achievers Teachers provide the opportunity for Elementary kids to succeed! The Elementary Achievers Teacher is responsible for teaching a group of Elementary students (1:12 ratio) in the content areas of reading and math and social-emotional development. An Elementary Achievers Teacher is a role model and mentor to school age students who need someone to come alongside them and provide support, encouragement, and resources so that they have the chance of fulfilling their potential and dreams.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build relationships with Elementary Achievers students
- Design lessons based on the needs of the students specifically in the content areas of reading and math
- Work with the classroom teacher(s) to understand the skills and concepts of the content to be addressed in during the Elementary Achievers lessons
- Evaluate student progress, document progress, and use best teaching practices to meet individual student objectives
- Maintain a professional attitude and relationship with parents and families and work with them as required
- Attend site staff meetings (TBD)
- Assist in recruiting students for the Teen Achievers program
- Commit to the mission of the Y, and represent the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility
Qualifications
- 18 years or older
- College credits in education (middle school/secondary preferred) or related field
- Experience in teaching reading and/or math preferred; methodologies course work in given content areas preferred
- Minimum 1 year experience working with Elementary School age students (1st – 5th grade)
- Ability to work cooperatively with youth, parents, staff and community organizations.
- Joy and satisfaction in working with Elementary School children
- Ability to work collaboratively
