Responsible for the day to day business affairs of the practice to achieve corporate goals
List of Responsibilities/Duties
Financial:
Directs and manages the day to day aspects of the business side of the clinical practice including patient scheduling, billing, collecting, insurance processing, purchasing, payroll, accounts payable and daily cash and inventory management.
- Assures maximum reimbursement for medical and surgical services rendered by clinic physicians and other health professionals
- Monitors third party payments and use of diagnostic and procedural coding
- Works with billing staff and with Medicare and third party payors as needed to process claims.
- Reviews fees periodically and makes recommendations.
- Implements all regulations and clinic policies pertaining to billing, allocation of payments, collections and write offs along with billing staff.
- Answers questions owner physicians may have about claim payments and the business operations of the clinic.
- Prepares recommendations for an annual budget prior to each fiscal year and compares budget to actual performance.
Personnel
- Manages and directs the recruiting and orientation programs for clinc associates.
- Works closely with doctors in the hiring and , if necessary, termination of associates.
- Insures associate's understanding of the practice's mission and objectives and the importance of attitude, attendance, accuracy , appearance and aptitude in achieving those objectives.
- Seeks associate input regarding clinic operation, policies and procedures.
- Resolves concerns and grievances, if possible.
- Empowers associates to achieve patient satisfaction within operating policies.
- Directs the conduct of oral and written performance evaluations.
- Implements practice's personnel policies.
- Monitors and controls overtime and associate's absences and PTO.
Patient and Referring Physician Satisfaction
- Monitors patient satisfaction and presents periodic reports to the physicians.
- Makes recommendations for improving patient satisfaction.
- Monitors and ensures satisfactory recall system.
Ressource Utilization and Marketing
- Manages day to day utilization of clinic business resources to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness in all areas including personnel, facility, equipment, records and supplies.
- Recommends methodologies to enhance business opportunities for the practice.
- Implements marketing strategies as approved by the physicians.
- Cooperates with credentialing staff to ensure ongoing credentialing of doctors with payment plans.
Meetings
- Attends organization committee meetings as requested.
- Works with physicians to prepare agendas and keep/disseminate minutes.
- Prepares and presents periodic reports, findings and recommendations regarding all areas of clinic business and operations to the physician owners.
Requirements
- Proven experience in healthcare management of a similar role within a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and office management.
- Eperience in ophthalmology is preferred.
- Excellent supervisory skills with the ability to motivate and lead a team effectively.
- Proficient in budgeting and financial management within a medical practice context.
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written in order to interact effectively with patients and staff.
Education
- Bachelors degree is preferred, combination of 1-2 year's college coursework and several year's relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree: additional experience will be considered if there is no college coursework.
