Expected Hours: Full -Time (40) Rate: $15.45
Supervisory Duties: No Overtime Exempt: No
Weekends: Mandatory (every other weekend)
Position Summary:
The Direct Support Professional provides 24-hour support for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. The role of the DSP is to advocate for and work with the person(s) they are supporting to help them reach their full potential and live the life they want to live. The right person for this job will have a positive attitude, be hard-working, demonstrate patience, and be reliable.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Support people with activities of daily living (ADL) which include but are not limited to meal preparation, housekeeping responsibilities, personal hygiene, bathing, and grooming.
- Provide information to be used in goal setting for people’s person-centered planning which includes but is not limited to community participation, household chores, budgeting, exercise, nutrition, and vocational responsibilities.
- Promote peoples supported independence and inclusion within the community while being aware of their disability.
- Complete daily documentation which includes a description of what was accomplished along with any medical or behavioral notations as required.
- Promoting self-advocacy with the person(s) being supported.
- Help to provide a safe and supportive environment for the people receiving services.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with DSPs, supervisor, and people supported.
- Promoting meaningful communication with the people being supported.
- Role models a positive attitude and behaviors for persons supported and KCI staff.
- Transporting individuals to community events, activities, and appointments.
- Arrive to shifts on time and ready to provide the best care possible.
- Adheres to and promotes the mission, culture, and practices of KCI.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
- Successful clearance of background check
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- Preferred - previous DDA experience
Physical requirements:
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Ability to lift and transfer individuals
License/Certifications:
- Mandt, Medication Technician, and CPR/First Aid certifications required. Training to obtain certifications will be provided.
