What You Need:
- Ability to work successfully with students, staff, administrators and community members
- Daily, In-person attendance and ability to be organized and work collaboratively with students, staff and families
- Must be flexible
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a ZA or ZS endorsement
- Special Education endorsement
- Ability to relate well with students
- Ability to collaborate with building staff and parents
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities
- Conducts assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning.
- Participates in and assists in developing Individual Educational Plans ("IEP") for students.
- Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEP's and behavior management plans.
- Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's.
- abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with social work services.
- Serves as ready resource to students and parents to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management; serves as liaison between home and school.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill requirements of the district's curriculum and reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Establish a system of student evaluation within the guidelines prescribed in state law or adopted by the district; continually evaluate and record various aspects of students' progress and report to parents as needed.
- Provide a variety of planned learning experiences using a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction..
- Understand diversity of student needs and provide supplemental programming or instruction.
- Provide a structured, orderly, safe, and respectful environment for students.
- Regular, reliable and punctual attendance
- Perform other reasonably related duties
