This is not a State of Delaware merit position. This is a two-year contractual position with the opportunity to work
long term.
The Kent Conservation District, a governmental subdivision of the State of Delaware, is seeking applicants for a
Community Conservation Specialist position for contractual services with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources
and Environmental Control (DNREC), Division of Watershed Stewardship.
To support community conservation efforts, we are seeking an energetic Community Conservation Specialist to join our
Conservation Programs Section. This position will focus on engaging communities in conservation, stewardship,
education, outreach, and other nature-based programs. The incumbent will work with a team advancing urban and green
infrastructure strategies to provide collaboration, assistance, and financing for conservation practices focusing on
restoration, protection, and sustainable management.
DUTIES:
- Assist and educate local landowners on the specific requirements and details of the Delaware Community
- Conduct site visits for potential project locations and for project completion verification.
- Lead and organize maintenance efforts at existing urban best management practices, including promotion and
- Assist with the design, installation, and management of conservation practices in public and private spaces
- Coordinate with community partners and assist with community engagement efforts to support ongoing projects.
- Develop educational materials and assist with outreach and educational workshops on the importance of water
- Assist with procurement of materials and supplies, including ordering native plants, mulch/compost, etc.
- Maintain records of maintenance and engagement activities.
- Develop strategies for long-term maintenance of best management practices/conservation practices.
- Provide administrative and outreach support for education and community conservation programs, including grant
development, project management, partner check-in meetings, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of native plants.
- Experience installing and maintaining pollinator gardens and/or native plantings.
- Experience working with landowners to enroll in state and public programs.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.
- Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled or disqualified from driving).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in natural resource management, environmental science, forestry, wildlife management, or
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, with assignments sometimes coming from several sources and work
- Strong organizational skills including attention to detail.
- Experience with coordinating and leading outreach and nature-based events.
- Ability to complete tasks independently within assigned time frames.
- Ability to coordinate project information from several sources to populate databases and create reports.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse partners and communities such as: consultants,

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
