This is not a State of Delaware merit position. This is a contractual position with the opportunity
to work long term.
The New Castle Conservation District, a governmental subdivision of the State of Delaware, is seeking
applicants for a Trail Crew Technician position for contractual services with the Delaware Department of
Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), Division of Parks and Recreation.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) in conjunction with the
Division of Parks and Recreation are responsible for over 160 miles of multi-use trails within Delaware
State Parks throughout the state. This position assists the Trail Leader with inspections and conducting
various trails and bridge repair throughout all state park lands. Trail Crew members are especially trained
in how to access trails, techniques to repair damaged trails, as well as constructing new trails within
Delaware’s seventeen state parks. This position will be responsible ensuring the trails are safe for the
varied intended uses of the trail system and related infrastructure.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Providing expert consulting services on trail management, repair, and redevelopment.
- Inventorying trail resources, identifying hazards and develops maintenance schedules.
- Inspecting trail bridges and determining replacement schedules.
- Identify and establish trail project priorities.
- Identifying causes of trail deterioration and trail alignment issues.
- Recommend trail repair specifications and develops trail project scope of work.
- Identify statewide issues involving assigned area and developing annual goals and objectives to
- Operate and maintain all types of trail construction equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Six months’ experience in trail management and maintenance.
2. Six months’ experience in single track trail and bridge construction.
3. Six months’ experience operating and maintaining motorized equipment.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Possession of a valid Delaware driver’s license (not suspended or revoked or cancelled or
disqualified from driving).
2. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DNREC does not provide
sponsorship for holders of H-1 B Visas.
3. Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition
of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check.
