Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide support for desktop operating systems in order to maintain the functional capacity of desktop clients, to support current and proposed applications and to interact with the County enterprise network. Analyzes desktop operating system problems; develops technically efficient solutions in collaboration with vendor support staff or independently, as appropriate; and effects solutions. Identifies and evaluates security issues with respect to desktops and collaborates with other members of the department to ensure the security and integrity of desktops, the enterprise network and County data and software.
In addition, the Desktop Operating Systems Support position :
- Installs, configures, and maintains desktop operating systems and system programs to support information management and processing applications.
- Analyzes changes to current desktop operating systems contained in upgrades and / or new releases of operating system software to identify compatibility with and impact on licensed and proprietary desktop applications software and the County enterprise network.
- Tests, installs, and configures desktop operating system upgrades and new releases.
- Performs routine housekeeping functions for desktop operating systems; diagnoses operating problems; and restores desktop functionality.
- Updates and maintains desktop operating system documentation.
- Provides work direction for Customer Service Technicians in the deployment of new desktop operating systems and / or new releases or upgrades of existing systems, and the application of patches and fixes.
- May perform any and all functions of the Customer Service Technician classification as necessary to provide quality support to end-users.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business Information Systems, Information Technologies, or a related field, combined with at least three years progressively responsible experience in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of desktop operating systems, hardware and applications software.
Must possess a thorough working knowledge of desktop operating systems, hardware and applications software, and installation, maintenance, and diagnostic protocols; knowledge of computer security protocols and systems, network architectures, systems analysis and systems design, client / server database applications, programming languages, including query languages, basic knowledge of networking protocols and configurations for support of client installations.
Possess positive customer service practices with strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
