What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Park Manager position at Kent County?
The Kent County Parks Department is seeking to fill an Assistant Park Manager position at Millennium Park.
The successful candidate will provide semi-skilled and skilled labor and oversight for the care, cleaning and general maintenance of County park facilities including buildings, fixtures, grounds, turf, walkways, parking lots and other physical features, as well as maintenance of related equipment. Individual will assist in hiring, scheduling, training and supervising a crew of workers. Extensive public contact and customer service will be required and may include managing group reservations, contacting park clients to coordinate events, and monitoring and interceding in patron activity.
Other duties may include managing concessions including ordering inventory, managing reservations and activities and reconciling deposits, planning and implementing construction projects, or overseeing and coordinating trail management. Individual is responsible for ensuring proper completion of staff timesheets, equipment maintenance records, performance measurements, playground inspection reports, vandalism reports and other mandatory paperwork. Will perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work Saturdays during the summer (May 1 - Oct 31)
- Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License Class A and Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License; or obtain them within six months of the date of hire. May also require Aquatic Facility Operator certification.
- Strongly desire experience with heavy equipment operation (Bobcat, backhoe, tractors, etc.); knowledge of proper chainsaw use and safety precautions; and experience with carpentry, plumbing, electrical or other skilled trades.
- Strongly desire experience in turfgrass management, with ability to diagnose and repair commercial irrigation systems, and perform maintenance and repairs on lawn mowers, tractors, and utility vehicles.
- Strongly desire previous supervisory experience. Proficiency with POS software and some history with reservation software and Microsoft Excel would be beneficial. Requires flexible work schedule including weekend days during peak season and some nights or early mornings.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills and the ability to interact positively with management, employees, park patrons and members of the general public from diverse backgrounds are essential.

Off-Season (Nov 1 - April 30) 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday - Friday
Required: Associate's degree or two-year certificate in Park Management, Forestry, Outdoor Recreation, Landscape Construction, Turfgrass, Horticulture or related field and two years of related work experience; or a comparable combination of education and experience. Off-Season (Nov 1 - April 30) 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday - Friday
