Position Summary:
Kent County Parks & Recreation is seeking enthusiastic and responsible individuals to serve as Camp Counselors for our summer programs:
- Kiddie Camp (ages 3 ½ – 5)
- Day Camp (ages 6 – 10)
Camp Counselors are critical to creating a safe, engaging, and fun environment for campers. This position requires experience working with children and teens, knowledge of age-appropriate activities, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. Counselors must maintain professionalism when interacting with staff, parents, and campers and are responsible for the safety and well-being of participants throughout the day.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers in assigned programs.
- Implement lesson plans, activities, and special events as outlined by the Camp Director.
- Supervise and engage with children and teens during all camp activities, including indoor and outdoor recreation.
- Serve as a role model for older campers (Youth in Action and Leaders Club), fostering leadership and teamwork skills.
- Maintain and care for camp supplies, equipment, and facilities.
- Administer basic First Aid as needed (training provided).
- Resolve conflicts among participants in a positive and constructive manner.
- Follow all camp regulations, including those required by the Department of Health.
Position Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or a high school graduate (Camp Counselor)
- Must be at least 16 years of age (Jr. Camp Counselor)
- Experience working with children and/or teens, preferably in a camp or educational setting.
- High level of energy, enthusiasm, and a passion for working with youth.
- Availability for the full camp schedule, including orientation (mid-June to mid-August).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (can be obtained during orientation).
- Ability to meet physical demands, including light cleaning and active participation in recreational activities.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Professional demeanor and character attributes befitting a public-facing position.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds,
- Light cleaning, and actively engaging in indoor/outdoor recreational activities with participants.
Pay rate: $16.07 hourly (Camp Counselor)
Pay rate: $15.00 hourly (Jr. Camp Counselor)
