Position Summary:
The Head Lifeguard for Kent County Parks & Recreation is responsible for overseeing the safety of pool patrons, supervising and guiding lifeguards, and ensuring the pool facilities and grounds are well-maintained. The Head Lifeguard plays a crucial leadership role in maintaining water safety standards, handling emergency situations, and enforcing pool policies. This role requires strong communication and leadership skills, as well as extensive knowledge of water safety protocols and procedures. The position is in the public eye, and candidates must exhibit exceptional professionalism and character at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the safety of pool patrons by enforcing water safety regulations and monitoring activities at all times.
- Administer First Aid and CPR as needed in emergency situations.
- Supervise, guide, and evaluate lifeguard staff, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the pool facility, grounds, and equipment throughout the shift.
- Record attendance at Millington and Bayside Pools.
- Ensure all lifeguards and staff are properly trained in emergency procedures and pool policies.
- Follow and enforce pool policies and health regulations as mandated by the Department of Health.
- Provide leadership and support to ensure a safe, professional, and welcoming environment for patrons.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Position Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Current Lifeguard Certification and First Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer required.
- Current Pool and Spa Operation Certification.
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience as a Lifeguard.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a team of lifeguards.
- Ability to travel between Kent County pool locations (Betterton, Millington, Worton, and Rock Hall).
- Available to work weekends and holidays throughout the summer season (Memorial Day to Labor Day).
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Maintain swimming endurance for a minimum distance of 500 meters.
- Safely handle pool chemicals and maintain proper water quality standards.
- Climb ladders, perform rescues, and respond effectively to emergency situations.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, and wind.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all skills outlined in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Manual, including water rescues, CPR, and first aid.
Pay Rate: $20.00 hourly
