Position Summary:
Kent County Parks & Recreation is seeking enthusiastic and responsible individuals for the Leaders Club Camp Counselor position. This role involves working with middle school to early high school-aged children (Grades 7-9, ages 12-15) in a leadership development program. Counselors will guide campers through activities that promote teamwork, personal growth, and leadership skills. Driving is required as part of this role to transport campers in 12- or 15-passenger vans to activities and field trips, so prior driving experience is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
- Lead activities that focus on leadership skills, team-building, and mentoring.
- Follow and implement daily schedules as coordinated by the Camp Supervisor.
- Transport campers in 12- or 15-passenger vans to field trips and activities safely.
- Complete required documentation, including reports on camper progress.
- Facilitate group discussions and team-building challenges.
- Engage in both structured and unstructured activities that promote leadership and personal growth.
- Resolve conflicts between campers, staff, and parents, using problem-solving techniques.
- Administer First Aid as needed.
Position Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Experience working with middle school and high school-aged children.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean three-year driving record.
- Completion of a defensive driving class (offered during orientation).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (can be obtained during orientation).
- Exceptional communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Availability for the full camp schedule, including orientation (mid-June to early August).
- Professional demeanor and strong character attributes suitable for a public-facing position.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds,
- Light cleaning, Driving, and actively engaging in indoor/outdoor recreational activities with participants.
Pay Rate: 16.56 hourly
