What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pretrial Investigator position at Kent County?
The successful candidate will be responsible for screening and conducting investigations of defendants for pretrial release purposes. This position’s primary work location is within the Kent County Correctional Facility intake area. Individual will interview defendants who are booked into the Correctional Facility and conduct criminal history checks and risk assessments.
Will be responsible for verifying defendant’s information, writing reports that are submitted to various courts throughout the County and presenting report findings to District Court Judges for bond review. In addition, this position will be responsible to appear in court for arraignments and act as the liaison for the pretrial program.
The successful candidate must be able to work second shift and willing to complete training under first shift for a limited time period. The candidate must be willing to working holidays and weekends.
The equivalency of an Associate's Degree in criminal justice or closely related field (60 credit hours) is required.
The equivalent of two years of client supervision, casework, or experience in court or legal systems dealing with at-risk populations or six months prior work experience in a pretrial service program is required.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Requires knowledge of the criminal justice system and skilled use of computers. Must maintain a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license and have access to transportation in the performance of job duties. Must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written and the ability to interact with clients from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Ability to speak and understand Spanish is an asset.
Chauffeur License is desired.
