What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterans Services Representative position at Kent County?
Provides professional counseling to determine benefits entitlement for veterans and their dependents. Assists with benefits applications and other required documentation in accordance with Federal and State laws. Provides referrals to County community resources and other assistance programs and services. Work is performed under general supervision with latitude for independent judgment and discretion.
Ability to interact positively with veterans, dependents, families, other human service professionals and members of the general public from a wide range of cultural and socio- economic backgrounds and with widely divergent levels of educational attainment and social skills.
This position may include some Saturdays.Associate's Degree in a human services discipline or related field, and four years' experience in veterans counseling, social work, benefits administration, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.
Accredited Veterans Service Officer (VSO) preferred. If not VSO accredited, must complete VSO training and accreditation within one year of hire. Veteran Status or dependent of Veteran preferred. Working knowledge of state and federal regulations and procedures relating to the provision of veterans benefits. Working knowledge of federal, state and county assistance programs and services available to veterans, their dependents, survivors and families of deployed service members. Knowledge of medical terminology. Computer proficiency including knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet and database management applications. Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Salary : $26
