Job Summary
The Assistant Sommelier plays a key supporting role within the wine program, working closely with our Sommeliers to provide exceptional wine service while maintaining the integrity of our cellar. This position is a balance of daytime responsibilities (cellar organization, inventory maintenance, bottle preparation, and ordering support) and evening shifts (assisting Sommeliers on the floor, bottle running, and table service support).
This role is ideal for someone passionate about wine who is eager to gain hands-on experience in both wine service and program operations. The Assistant Sommelier will learn from a team of experienced professionals while helping to create a seamless and thoughtful guest experience.
The Printemps wine list will showcase a diverse selection from many major and classic wine-growing regions, with an emphasis on wines with historic significance and forward-thinking selections. RESPONSIBILITIES
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
- Have a warm, positive, and noticeably appreciative demeanor towards guests and colleagues
- Must demonstrate strong food, wine, and spirits knowledge and eagerness to continue education
- Be comfortable using a digital point of sales system.
- Be able to effectively communicate, give and take constructive criticism, and productively lead in a small team dynamic.
- Must be able to easily adapt and improvise in order to personalize service for each guest
- Have full schedule availability, including weekends and holidays
SERVICE
- Assist Sommeliers during service by retrieving and running bottles, handling glassware needs, and ensuring efficient wine delivery to tables.
- Maintain and navigate a champagne cart within a retail space speaking to the quality of the wines on offer.
- Coordinating polished and personalized wine service for each table with the assistance of the Server
- Engaging in thoughtful yet concise conversation with the guest
- Learning and maintaining menu and beverage knowledge
- Maintaining warm and professional composure with colleagues and guests
- Assist with wine pairing execution and table-side service under the guidance of senior Sommeliers.
- Actively participate in team wine tastings, training sessions, and education initiatives.
- Develop skills in guest engagement, wine sales strategy, and service techniques.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- The Assistant Sommelier should
- Be able to stand for extended periods of time [over 5 hours]
- Be able to lift and carry 50 pounds steadily
- Be comfortable bending, sitting, walking extended distances including up and down flights of stairs, and moving.
- Be comfortable with heights, elevators and small spaces.
