Kent School seeks an Assistant Librarian - Cataloging who will facilitate the discovery of appropriate resources in the library for all library users by creating and maintaining records used to search in our cataloging systems. This is a highly technical and skilled position that requires a deep understanding of multiple vendors systems, familiarity with student users and their research process, and a willingness to continuously re-skill and adapt to changing systems, as well as patron-facing skills for coverage of the front desk procedures and systems with students and faculty.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Creation of cataloging records in MARC format; oversight of cataloging system and standards including but not limited to AACR-2, RDA and Dublin Core metadata.
- Management of electronic records for collections: additions, removals, location changes, other.
- Circulation management: accounting for lost and overdue titles, tracking withdrawn students, batch loading of new students and employees and other patron maintenance.
- Assistance with stewardship of gifts and endowed fund purchases; requires familiarity with editing.
- InDesign software templates, coordination with Alumni & Development Office.
- Special Collection implementation and management (Kent Authors in particular).
- Serve as librarian on duty in the evening, maintaining a studious atmosphere through the firm, fair and friendly application of school and library rules and procedures.
- Serve as Library Jobs Captain: coordinate with Deans Office, train and supervise student workers.
- Help students and faculty at the main desk.
- Other duties in the library as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge of the following platforms/software: Koha Integrated Library System, Advanced Google Suite, InDesign, Springshare LibGuides, iPage, OverDrive Marketplace, and others as needed. Kent-specific systems (Veracross, REACH, etc).
- A Bachelor’s Degree, and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
