Basic Function:
The Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising at Kent State University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track position at the rank of Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Fashion Merchandising. This is a 9-month appointment with the possibility of summer teaching, contingent upon enrollment and availability of funds.
Examples Of Duties
Additional Basic Function – if applicable:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Teaching courses to support the fashion merchandising curricula;
- Maintaining and broadening up-to-date industry knowledge regarding fashion contexts;
- Participating in curriculum and course development
- Advising students on topics related to coursework, career options and the fashion industry
- Performing appropriate service related to assigned workload responsibilities.
Additional Examples of Duties – if applicable:
- A master’s degree in Fashion, Apparel and Textiles, or related fields, or equivalent combination of bachelor’s degree and professional experience. Degree must be earned by the start date. Terminal degree is required for Assistant Professor rank.
- Evidence of successful teaching, preferably at the university level, with expertise in:
- Merchandise Planning and Buying
- Product Management and Supply Chain
- Fashion Retail Technologies
- Proficiency in technologies essential for the current fashion/related industry
- Proficiency in utilizing pedagogical technologies (e.g., Canvas).
- Ability to advise and mentor students or student groups, competitions, scholarships, etc.
- Evidence of 5 years of industry experience
- Ability to integrate diversity/multicultural perspective into teaching and research
- Experience with synchronous or asynchronous online teaching

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
