Position Summary: The Library Associate II performs all the tasks of a library associate plus
additional complex tasks requiring considerable knowledge of a specialized or technical area of library operations. These duties have significant technical requirements with a high level of accountability.
The Patron Experience Library Associate II will spend a majority of their time working in the Erlanger Branch's children's collection on organization, maintenance, and deselection in conjunction with Collection Services, the Collection Liaison and the Patron Experience team. They will work closely with KCPL's PR department and fellow PR Liaisons on social media content, reading lists, and other initiatives.
Patron Experience Responsibilities:
- Responsible for branch collection maintenance in all formats including deselection, specifically the children's collection.
- Stays up to date with Children's literature including past and upcoming titles, award winners and more.
- Coordinates and collaborates this work with Patron Experience and Collection Services staff.
- Acts as Public Relations Liaison.
- Tasks include blogs, book lists for recommendations, and more.
- Must have knowledge of and interest in current and ongoing trends.
- Ability to write and edit efficiently and effectively.
- May orient, train, assign, schedule and check the work of other staff members or volunteers.
- Creates displays and reading lists to promote materials in the collection for all age groups with a focus on the children's collection. Creates reading lists for the branch and/or social media use.
- Exercises independent judgment and initiative in organizing and prioritizing work.
- Performs work that may have an impact on library finances, operations, and relationships with other entities.
- Acts as Staff-in-Charge in the absence of the Branch Manager and Department Heads. Serves as resource person for other staff members.
- Enforce Code of Conduct and other policies/procedures proactively and impartially.
- Inputs and retrieves computer data and statistics.
- Maintains files and inventories; maintains accurate and detailed reports and records.
- Operates and troubleshoots various pieces of office equipment including computers, copiers, printers, and scanners.
Service-Related Responsibilities:
- Serve the general public in a friendly, professional manner.
- Provide desk coverage; assist patrons of all ages with reference questions and readers' advisory.
- Provide services to patrons at all public service points.
- Will be cross-trained in other departments.
- Assist in collection development and maintenance.
- Assist with opening and/or closing duties; assist in maintaining the orderly appearance of the library.
- Process library card applications and verify patron accounts.
- Process reserves, holds and renewals.
- Schedule meeting rooms for library events and outside groups.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred; high school graduate or equivalent with some college required.
- 3-5 years' experience in library work or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of classic authors and current publishing trends, preferably with an interest in children's literature.
- Must be open to becoming a Kentucky Notary.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and work independently and with a team.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Must have great time management skills.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively deal with the public and coworkers in a positive, professional manner.
- KDLA certification or ability to obtain certification (if working 100 hours per month).
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently or with others in a busy department.
- Light to moderate physical demands including the ability to bend, kneel, reach to retrieve library materials and carry items weighing 20-30lbs, and can push book trucks or bins weighing 100lbs.
- Experience using windows-based PCs and software; Internet and e-mail experience; ability and willingness to learn, adapt to and teach new technologies.
