The Latonia Branch, expected to open in May of 2025, will be the newest addition to the Kenton County Public Library system, located in the Latonia Commerce Center near Ritte's Corner. The 11,500 sq. ft. facility will feature a large meeting room, small study spaces, and dedicated areas for children, teens, and adults, alongside a robust collection of materials. This community-focused branch aims to provide educational resources and support to the densely populated neighborhood, which includes schools, senior living facilities, and businesses. The project aligns with the library's strategic goals to serve as an anchor institution and bring positive change to the community.
Position Summary:
The Library Associate II position is a customer service position designed to adequately meet the needs of the library's customers. Library Associate II are assigned to a specific location but are cross-trained and expected to work in any Kenton County Public Library public service department or location based on the library's staffing needs. Temporary assignments may occur in the case of staff shortages or leaves of absence. When possible, every effort will be made to give staff notice when being asked to work in or be temporarily assigned to a different location.
Hours are varied: Evening, Weekend and out-of-library work is required. This position is expected to begin in early March of 2025.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for opening and closing branch on weekends and evenings.
- Serves as back up to full-time library associate II - Branch Services
- Assists with booking/scheduling and setting up meeting spaces for library events and outside groups
- Prepares written report on monthly activities.
- May assist with developing daily desk schedules for branch.
- Assists with maintaining and ordering branch supplies.
- May assist with Maker Space activities.
- Demonstrates effective public service skills, and an understanding of public library operations. Supports "patron first" practices.
- Provides accurate informational and directional assistance to patron inquiries; staff all public services desks in all departments.
- Proficiently handles all circulation duties, including desk opening and closing procedures, use of all patron and circulation forms, patron fines and daily receipts.
- May help host or assist with library programs.
- May assist with collection maintenance.
- May assist with volunteer supervision
- Responsible for branch banking in absence of designated staff
- Acts as Staff-in-Charge in the absence of senior staff.
- Enforce Code of Conduct and other policies/procedures proactively and impartially.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred; high school graduate or equivalent and some college required.
- Able to communicate effectively with all ages and to work well with patrons
- KDLA certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Requires ability to handle patron complaints and handle difficult situations involving patrons.
- Must possess excellent customer service skill, as well as be a self-starter and problem solver.
- Knowledge and familiarity with computers and new technology. Experience using windows-based PCs and software; Internet and e-mail experience; ability and willingness to learn, adapt to and teach new technologies.
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, kneel, reach and retrieve items weighing 20-30 lbs.; must be able to lift 30 lbs and push or pull book trucks weighing 100 lbs.
