What are the responsibilities and job description for the Programmer II - Independence Branch position at Kenton County Public Library?
Position Summary: The Programmer II will execute library-sponsored programs and facilitate community group events with the capacity of 450 participants. The ideal candidate is passionate, creative, organized, and detail oriented. They provide excellent service at every turn and are experienced in all aspects of event, meeting, and conference planning, including equipment logistics, room setup, and best practices. They will have excellent leadership skills and the ability to delegate and collaborate to meet deadlines and expectations. This position will be cross trained at public services desks and expected to regularly provide customer service to patrons, shelve materials, and provide other essential library services.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Meet the needs of the community with innovative, targeted large-scale events
- Plan, book and facilitate logistics for all events, including maintaining budget, contract negotiations, registration lists, room preparation, presentation materials, security, catering, entertainment, transportation, equipment, decor, and marketing materials. Ensure that consistent high-level service is implemented throughout all phases
- Utilizes the Feature Space by developing eye-catching, interactive displays to promote programming and the collection.
- Creates and fosters relationships with community organizations / businesses for potential programming partnerships.
- Cross-trained at public services desks and expected to regularly provide customer service to patrons, shelve materials, and provide other essential library services
- Customer service to patrons may include in person, telephone, email, and chat service; uses a wide variety of print and electronic resources
- Coordinate with other library departments and branches for multi-branch themed programming or systemwide programs
- Coordinate with internal staff, patrons, vendors, volunteers, and other to establish needs for events and serve as liaison throughout the planning process
- Works with the PR department to promote programs which can include appearing on local network television, posting on social media and creating flyers
- Nurture and build relationships with vendors and contacts to craft and implement creative and logistical aspects of all events
- Establish standard event procedures and train staff and volunteers to execute them
- Comply with legal, financial, insurance, health and safety regulations at all times
- Build and maintain a comprehensive database of industry contacts, vendors, and venues
- Prepares comprehensive written report on monthly activities and compiles appropriate statistics on program attendance and library use
- Stay current with event planning, design, and public relations concepts
- Participate in trainings & present at the local and regional level
- Troubleshoot and handle any issues that arise; will act as Staff-in-Charge
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience in event planning, marketing and/or public relations required
- Demonstrated professionalism and team building experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in maintaining and building solid community and business relationships
- Excellent organizational skills, including multitasking, time and financial management, and meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to handle pressure and make sound decisions
- Ability to work individually or within a group environment with a diverse population, including individuals, agencies, and businesses.
- Must have sense of humor
- Computer skills including MS Office, Internet, and experience with electronic databases and resources, and ebooks
- Ability to obtain and maintain certification through the Kentucky State Board for the Certification of Librarians
- Valid driver's license and means of transportation to fulfill job responsibilities
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and carry 10 ft; must be able to push and/or pull 100 lbs.
Salary range: $19 per hour; Excellent benefits package
