Position Summary: The Social Media Associate will help bring the library's story to life through engaging video, photography and social media content. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, flexible and has a good sense of humor, all while understanding the importance of meeting deadlines.
This position requires a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and out of library hours.
Responsibilities:
- Help tell the library's story through engaging social media content, including video, photography, graphics and copy.
- Assist the Social Media Coordinator with content creation by capturing, editing, and producing multimedia videos and photos highlighting library staff, patrons, programs and services.
- Ensure content aligns with the library's brand, messaging and audience expectations.
- Stay informed on social media trends, tools and best practices to enhance engagement and reach.
- Contribute ideas to the content calendar and assist in scheduling and publishing posts.
- Monitor and engage with followers, responding to comments, questions and messages promptly and professionally.
- Use analytics and performance metrics to track engagement and optimize content strategy.
- Represent the library at events, capturing real-time content for social media.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather content ideas and ensure consistent messaging across platforms.
- Maintain proficiency in Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and other platforms.
- Engage with patrons and staff to create dynamic and inclusive social media content.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in PR/Communications/Journalism/Social Media/Marketing preferred
- Will consider an upper-level college student majoring in PR/Communications/Journalism/Social Media/Marketing or someone with a strong background in social media.
- Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to all KCPL locations.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and hours outside the library's standard operating hours.
- Comfortable approaching patrons, presenters and staff to create engaging content.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Familiarity with Coschedule and Canva preferred.
- Experience in video production and photography for social media.
- Ability to create motion graphics for videos and social media.
- Capture and edit photographs of library events, activities and services for use on websites, social media and printed materials.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Light to moderate physical demands, including bending, kneeling, reaching for equipment and carrying items weighing 20-30 lbs.
