Position Overview
At Kents Hill School, Department Chairs are the academic leaders of their discipline. As a member of the Academic Committee, the Mathematics Department Chair is responsible for advocating for the unique aspects of their program while also imagining how mathematics education fits into the overall academic framework of the School. The Department Chair is a master teacher with the ability to teach throughout the curriculum while leading and collaboratively developing individual growth plans for each member of their team. With a start date of August 15, 2025, Kents Hill’s new Mathematics Department Chair will teach four classes, perform residential duties, advise a group of students, and participate in the co-curricular program of the School.
The ideal candidate will be:
an educational leader who can create a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and innovation within the Mathematics department while simultaneously ensuring clarity of vision and programmatic quality
an experienced Mathematics teacher who can capably plan, deliver, and assess differentiated student learning professionally and independently
able to oversee department operations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and performance evaluation, ensuring the team is working cohesively to achieve strategic goals.

culturally competent with skills for engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences

committed to the boarding school student experience and excited to engage with students both inside and outside of the classroom. Typically, this includes:
Residing in campus housing and engaging in all facets of residential life
Advising a group of students
Involvement in afternoon and extracurricular activities
QUALIFICATION/CERTIFICATIONS
Experience teaching mathematics at all levels, Algebra 1 to AP Calculus and/or AP Statistics
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
The ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
