KBC is seeking a knowledgeable, experienced, and energetic leader to manage effective and efficient blood collections operations based at our Pikeville Donor Center. The Blood Collections Manager oversees the activities of employees according to KBC SOPs, FDA regulations, AABB standards and cGMPs. The role guides adherence to regulations and standards issued by regulatory agencies and accrediting organizations to ensure KBC is compliant with applicable AABB, FDA, CLIA, State, OSHA, and Short-Supply Agreement requirements. Reports to the Director of Blood Collections Operations (DBCO).

Essential Job Duties
Manages effective and efficient blood collection operations by:
  • Directing supervisory employees and holding regular team meetings.
  • Ensuring compliance of Quality Control functions/documents and maintenance of equipment, including record keeping.
  • Regular communication of necessary information to leadership and peers.
  • Ensuring supplies are adequate, which includes ordering, inventory management using the FEFO method or other means as required.
  • Ensuring products collected meets all KBC standards and SOPs.
  • Ensuring employees abide by Universal Precautions and Safety guidelines.
  • Overseeing administration of medical care in the event of donor reactions.
  • Performs HCT/P collections per Dendreon requirements and FDA 21CFR part 1271, as applicable for location.
  • Interviews and hires to ensure adequate and qualified staffing is maintained.
  • Identifies and facilitates training and development needs; recommends effective employee action.
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of department employees (6-month new hire, annual, or otherwise as needed).
  • Administers appropriate counseling, documenting accordingly.
  • Ensures continuity of operations through coordination and collaboration with other departments.
  • Oversees proper care of vehicles and facility, working with Facilities Management to coordinate routine maintenance, as applicable.
  • Partners with the Marketing and Recruitment departments in planning operations to achieve collection goals.
  • Prepares, monitors, and controls departmental budget; works interdepartmentally to develop and execute plans related to cost management, operational efficiency, and maintaining requirements for KBC property.
  • Maintains environment conducive to attracting and retaining donors by monitoring customer/community relations, and facility appearance.
  • Participates in local community organizations (e.g., Chamber of Commerce), as applicable for location.
Ensures compliance with cGMP through:
  • Appropriate utilization of the Occurrence Management (OM) report.
  • SOP adherence and maintenance.
  • Coordination and collaboration with members of Blood Collections Quality (BCQ) and Quality Assurance (QA).
  • Assists with reviewing and/or revising SOPs.
  • Supports and participates in special projects, and other duties as assigned.

Working Environment & Physical Effort This position requires the ability to:

  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently carry out basic clerical duties (typing/writing).
  • Occasionally lift up to or approximately 40 pounds without assistance.
  • Occasionally bend or reach to perform various job tasks.
  • Analyze complex situations and make sound decisions.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure.
  • Visually differentiate and identify specific colors, and various shades.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/equivalent required with appropriate combination of experience and education; qualified candidates with bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of team management experience with demonstrated ownership in responding to complex operational and people matters, and responsibility for maintaining business activities; background, training and education in a related healthcare environment is a plus.
  • MS Office and Adobe proficiency with the ability to navigate, enter information, and fulfill reporting functions in web-based applications and custom systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must exhibit strong leadership ability with high integrity, and proficient administrative, interpersonal, and technical skills.
  • Flexible schedule to include occasional evenings, weekends, and regular business travel within KBC’s service area.
  • Valid Kentucky driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Requirements may be modified at the Company’s discretion in the consideration of qualified internal applicants.
