Position Overview
As a Staff Attorney, your primary duties will include:
- Interviewing, advising, and representing eligible clients in court and before administrative agencies.
- Maintaining an active caseload as determined by the Managing Attorney and Legal Assistance Program Director.
- Serving as attorney of record in cases generated by Legal Assistants, reviewing pleadings, and advising on appropriate legal issues.
- Traveling as required to meet with eligible clients in outlying service areas.
- Ensuring compliance with agency policies, case management procedures, and timekeeping requirements.
- Maintaining competency on legal matters routinely handled by Kentucky Legal Aid.
This position requires adaptability, as employees may be called upon to perform additional duties to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the agency.
Qualifications
Required:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and licensure to practice law in Kentucky or eligibility for admission based on licensure in another state.
- Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income clients and promoting social and economic justice.
- Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and community partners.
Preferred:
- Experience in housing or family law
- Proficiency in Spanish or another language
