Job Summary: Lighting Technicians at Kentucky Performing Arts (KPA) are primarily engaged in the execution of events as a lighting designer or board operator during events, and maintaining KPA equipment, systems, and theaters. The Lighting Technician is responsible for providing the highest level of Production services to Kentucky Performing Arts staff, patrons, clients, and visitors. These aspects of the role require working knowledge of ETC Ion and GrandMA lighting consoles, ETC Sensor dimmers and intelligent lighting fixtures.
This individual will utilize their extensive background in the field of live events and passion for the arts to help Kentucky Performing Arts innovate its facilities and programs.

The Lighting Technician is responsible for providing the highest level of Production services to Kentucky Performing Arts staff, patrons, clients, and visitors. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supports the mission, vision, and values of Kentucky Performing Arts while understanding and complying with company expectations, policies and procedures.
- Plans work and executes tasks independently. Adapts well to changing priorities, deadlines, and directions with a positive and open mindset. Communicates clearly, consistently, respectfully, and collaboratively when communicating on behalf of KPA.
- Participates in all appropriate meetings, as well as professional development programs to maintain competency and increase acumen of industry related services, products, innovation, and trends.
- Works as part of the stage crew on events held in KPA venues.
- Supervises and assists incoming attractions with audio, video, lighting, staging, and projection equipment.
- Effectively manages financial and physical resources to achieve the mission and goals of KPA.
- Collaborates with KPA employees, resident groups, and clients to implement and maintain innovative programs and events.
- Trains other Kentucky Performing Arts staff on lighting, audio, video, rigging, and electrical equipment.
- Maintains Kentucky Performing Arts theatrical lighting equipment in all KPA venues.
- Assists with and/or oversees transporting KPA equipment and supplies among all KPA venues, utilizing KPA vehicles.
- Troubleshoots and repairs audio, video, electrical, lighting and network cables.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Essential Physical Responsibilities:
- Average skills in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Specific vision abilities required include: close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, as well as navigate the facility in both public and private spaces.
- Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds unassisted with appropriate lifting techniques and/or devices.
- Ability to climb ladders, operate and work in elevated lifts, and work at heights up to 100 feet.
- Ability to push or pull heavy objects up to 1,000 pounds using proper equipment and techniques.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of ETC Ion and GrandMA lighting consoles, ETC Sensor dimmers, intelligent lighting, rigging equipment, electrical safety and operations, as well as theater terminology and safety procedures.
- Must maintain a valid drivers license and DOT medical card.
- This position will work days, nights, weekends and overtime.
- Two years’ experience with professional theatrical lighting equipment.
- Experience as a lighting designer and console programmer.
