EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time 

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

 

JOB SUMMARY: The Admission Specialist will be responsible for attracting, evaluating, and guiding prospective students through the admissions process for Kentucky State University. This position will require evening and weekend hours, as well as extensive travel during recruiting cycles. The role involves developing and implementing recruitment strategies, conducting outreach efforts, participating in events, and serving as a primary point of contact for prospective students and their families. The successful candidate will work to meet enrollment targets while promoting the institution’s mission. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Recruitment & Outreach:
    • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract prospective students to the institution.
    • Represent the university at national and regional college fairs and coordinate personal visits to high schools and community colleges to generate prospective student interest and/ or applications.
    • Build and maintain relationships with prospective students, guidance counselors, and community college coordinators within assigned regional and national territory via direct and electronic mail and telephone.
    • Conduct presentations about the institution’s academic offerings and campus life.
  • Admissions Counseling:
    • Advise prospective students and families on the admissions process, including application process, deadlines, and requirements.
    • Assist prospective students in identifying academic programs that align with their goals and interests.
    • Process and review undergraduate student applications, evaluate academic credentials, and provide admissions decisions.
  • Data Management:
  • Maintain accurate records of prospective students, leads, and outreach efforts using the institution's CRM (Salesforce/TargetX) system.
    • Provide regular updates and reports on recruitment activities and progress toward admissions goals.
    • Track and monitor the effectiveness of recruitment strategies, adjusting as needed to meet goals.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Collaborate with the financial aid and academic advising departments to provide a holistic experience for prospective students.
    • Communicate effectively with current students, faculty, and staff to ensure alignment between recruitment efforts and institutional priorities.
    • Participate in team meetings to discuss recruitment trends, challenges, and best practices.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of recruitment strategies, higher education trends, and the admissions process.
  • Proficiency in using student information systems (Banner) and CRM systems and other recruitment tools.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Flexible, creative, and innovative approach to recruitment in a competitive environment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for recruitment events and meetings.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends to meet recruitment goals.

 

MINIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, marketing, business, or related field required.


PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Previous experience in admissions, recruitment, or student services, preferably in a higher education or similar setting.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting recruitment goals or enrollment targets.
  • Proficiency in using student information systems (SIS) and Microsoft suite. Familiarity with Banner and Salesforce/TargetX.
  • Proficiency in using National Student Clearinghouse and Parchment to process transcripts.
  • Strong understanding of admission policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting tools to measure recruitment success.
  • Familiarity with the institution's academic programs and campus culture.

 

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY 

  • This position does have supervisory responsibility. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYISICAL EFFORT:

 

  • Travel for recruitment events and evening/weekend hours for outreach initiatives. 
  • Work is normally performed in typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
