JOB SUMMARY: 

STEM Momentum is a four-week residential program in which high school students take up to two college courses while living on campus. Classes start on Monday, June 2, 2025, and are offered from Monday to Friday each week. During the week, classes are held in the morning and early afternoon, and time is set aside for lunch. The Bilingual Summer Dual Credit Residential Mentor will play an essential role in guiding, supporting, and engaging students in both academic and recreational activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with youth and is fluent in Spanish and English. During the evening, the Office of Dual Credit staff and Summer Dual Credit Residential Mentors will organize and lead activities and events for the students. A Mentor provides leadership and guidance for a group of students, ensuring a quality experience for students. A Mentor creates positive, professional relationships with students. Under the direction of the Office of Dual Credit, the Mentor will be responsible for assisting with the planning, development, and implementation of program activities.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Work cooperatively with other Summer Dual Credit Residential Mentors to ensure students are safe while maintaining adequate health and hygiene measures
  • Demonstrate and encourage skills such as executive functioning, self-advocacy, social relationship building, and independent living
  • Responsible for managing a group of high school students
  • Keep the safety of students in mind at all times; students are never to be left unattended
  • Oversee students in residence, at activities, on excursions, and during meal times
  • Ensure students are prepared and on time for classes and activities
  • Set a good example in promptness, manners, language, appearance, health, and care for the facilities
  • Create and promote group unity by making everyone feel a part of the group
  • Generate and foster student enthusiasm for classes, activities, and other special events
  • Provide guidance, motivation, and support by showing compassion, empathy, and understanding
  • Participate in, assist with, and/or lead evening programs and weekend excursions
  • Know the whereabouts of students at all times, taking roll at the beginning and end of every activity
  • Assist with student arrival (move-in) and departure (move-out) procedures
  • Attend all meetings and training as scheduled by the Office of Dual Credit and Student Success
  • Attend all meals while on duty
  • Assist with night duty and on-call duty as assigned
  • Performs other duties as needed

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Must be fluent in Spanish to work with a large ESL population.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Enthusiastic and innovative individual
  • Ability to work with and engage students at the high school level in a residential setting
  • Thrive in both a team environment and independently
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • A positive and caring mindset
  • Reliable and great work ethic
  • Prior experience working with or supervising teenagers is an asset
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with people from different backgrounds is an asset

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: 

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility

 

OTHER DUTIES: 

  • Other related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Over 18 years of age.
  • Successfully completed at least 30 college credit hours
  • Majoring in a STEM field is a plus
  • Need one professional or academic reference from an individual that can attest to your character and academic ability.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Must be able to communicate verbally with good voice projection
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Some nights and weekends will be required
  • Must live on campus in a room assigned by the Office of Dual Credit
  • Lift items (up to 20 lbs)
  • Carry items (up to 20 lbs)
