JOB SUMMARY:
Have visionary leadership in marketing, public relations, research-based messaging, and branding expertise. Work closely and collaboratively with the Land Grant Director, Land Grant Leadership Team, and associated offices to develop and implement an integrated, proactive, comprehensive, marketing strategy and plan that enhances the KSU Land Grant brand.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Land Grant Director, the Land Grant Leadership Team and associated offices to develop and implement an integrated, proactive, comprehensive, marketing strategy and plan that enhances the KSU Land Grant brand and reputation of Kentucky State University (KSU).
- Collaborate closely with the Director, AEA, and ARD in carrying out the needs and requirements for promoting work under the Land Grant mission in accordance with the strategic plan of the College, LGP, and the university.
- Work with the Cooperative Extension and Agricultural Research Director to identify the most effective marketing strategy for growing programs in the Land Grant Program.
- Establish strong, sustained marketing, branding, and lead annual marketing plan development efforts with land grant personnel and stakeholders.
- Manage all land grant branding, marketing, and communication activities, especially media relations; digital communication and social media; advertising placements, including print, digital, broadcast, and other formats that will ensure a cost-effective strategy to advertise and promote research, extension, and other targeted stakeholders.
- Work with the LG Director on strategies through strategic, effective, and enhanced relationships with TV, radio, and print media.
- Promote the achievements of Land Grant faculty, students, staff, and community leaders to enhance branding at the regional, state, and national level.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Director of Land Grant Programs on all matters related to internal and external branding, and strategic marketing.
- Utilize appropriate metrics and analytics to keep the university apprised of national marketing trends that may have an impact on the university, and report regularly on the market position of the KSU Land Grant program in relation to competing institutions in the region, the state and the nation.
- In partnership with the webmaster, coordinate digital outreach efforts and enhancements to the KSU College of Ag and Land Grant Program website that will positively impact our marketing and communication initiatives.
- Manage and coordinate all writing, photography, editing and other activities that directly support the development, production and distribution of the Land Grant programs marketing and communication products; and materials intended to promote/advertise land grant events on/off campus.
- Effectively manage and mentor the marketing and communication professional staff who fall under the supervision of the Director of Land Grant Communications and lead the development of an annual marketing and communication budget.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Have a demonstrated knowledge of brand development and current marketing and communication trends.
- Extensive knowledge of the use of social media
- Exceptional writing, oral, and presentation skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with senior leadership, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of marketing campaign planning and execution.
- Knowledge of the trends, issues, and practices pertaining to marketing in the higher education sector.
- Knowledge of relevant emerging technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Marketing or creative services project management skills.
- Ability to manage professional staff.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- This position does have supervisory responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree acceptable, PhD preferred in English, writing, marketing, management, or business. Minimum of three (3) years in campaign management, marketing or creative services management; experience in higher education

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements.
- Involves sometimes working outside standard business hours to cover events, conduct interviews, and assist with communication.
- Involves travel off site to cover events, conduct interviews, and assist with communication.
- Position is physically comfortable; individual has discretion about sitting (80%), walking (10%), standing (10%), etc.
- Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks.
- Must be able to move up to 45lbs.
