TITLE: High School Research Intern in Bioremediation
DEPARTMENT: College of Agriculture Community and the Sciences
EFFECTIVE DATE: Position will Remain Open until Filled
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: A High School Research Intern will support established research projects within the College of Agriculture, Community, and Sciences.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Under the direct supervision of KSU Faculty Member, the High School Research Assistant will contribute to established research projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists other research staff with laboratory experiments and field work.
- Assists in data collection, measurement, and recording of data.
- Keeps a record of activities and may use photographs or videos, which can help in developing written progress reports.
- Maintains records as required.
- May assist in the maintenance of greenhouses facilities, etc.
- Maintains inventory and maintains the laboratory in a clean and orderly manner.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Student must a minimum GPA of 2.75 out of 4.0 scale
- Student must be able to give a block of time of at least two hours
- Student must be able to provide own transportation to location
- Interest in agriculture, environmental science, horticulture, agribusiness, etc. is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Computer literacy
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team effort is required
- Initiative, resourcefulness, punctuality, and ability to work independently are essential
- Ability to maintain concise and accurate records.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely in a laboratory or field setting
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- May involve extended physical exertion
