JOB SUMMARY:
Under direction of the Director of Student Wellness and Experience, The APRN provides nursing care and health services including testing, nursing assessment and first aid to students and staff; disseminate health services information and provide specialized assistance and counseling regarding individual health needs; maintain a variety of health records (written and electronic); determine health education /promotion needs and develop action plans for campus wellness.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide confidential, in-depth personal health and mental health counseling; refer students to
physicians, nurse practitioners, MFT interns, clinics, agencies, and other healthcare providers
according to established procedures; schedule student appointments.
- Provide professional nursing care to sick and injured students and staff; make independent nursing
assessments regarding illnesses and emergency situations according to established policies and
guidelines; refer more complex medical problems to the Director, Health Services, physician, nurse
practitioner, or other appropriate healthcare professional.
- Administer first aid; respond to campus medical emergencies and provide basic emergency care
according to approved procedures.
- Administer immunization injections, screen for vision and hearing problems, and dispense medication
according to established procedures; safely handles and dispose of hazardous waste according to
protocol.
- Organize and oversee clinics; prepare students for medical examinations by a doctor or nurse
practitioner; assist with examinations and treatment as directed,
- Maintain accurate confidential health records and statistics; record lab work performed and
medications administered; provide essential information to appropriate staff; prepare accident, liability,
and workers’ compensation forms as needed; report suspected abuse, molestation, and neglect in
accordance with legal requirements,
- Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Emergency healthcare and medical assessment techniques.
- Medical terminology and resources.
- Community health resources.
- Illness prevention and wellness.
- Use and side effects of various medications.
- Current nursing practices/scope of practice, equipment, and techniques,
- Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Recordkeeping techniques.
- Technical aspects of the field of specialty.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- This position may have supervisory responsibility.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical perioperative experience.
- 1-2 years’ experience in the Nurse Practitioner role preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Practitioner Program.
- Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure
- Current Nurse Practitioner certification in the specialty area.
- Current CNOR/CRNFA (if applicable) certification
- Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); PALS provider card as required by department or facility
- Strong computer skills, including Electronic Health Records and Microsoft Office Suite
- Eligible for hospital privileges.
- Experience in an educational institution is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Primarily business office environment
- Frequent exposure to hazardous materials such as bloodborne pathogens, bacteria, viruses, solvents, and other toxic chemicals and substances that require the use of personal protection equipment including gloves and clothing.
- Occasional local travel may be requested
