JOB SUMMARY:
The Upward Bound (UB) Program provides fundamental support to participants preparing for college entrance. The program offers opportunities for students to improve their pre-college performance and succeed in higher education. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families, students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree, and low-income, first-generation military veterans preparing for postsecondary education. The program’s goal is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as a liaison between staff and participants.
- Monitor the academic progress, attendance, and participation of Upward Bound students during the six-week summer program.
- Participate in program activities alongside Upward Bound students.
- Conduct individual and group instructional meetings.
- Attend and participate in training sessions.
- Assist in chaperoning cultural, educational, and recreational trips.
- Make referrals to the UB Program Coordinator or Director for students requiring additional attention.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the instructor and Upward Bound staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Serve as a liaison between staff and participants.

- This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Participate in required training and professional development sessions.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students and staff.
- Support and uphold the mission of the Upward Bound Program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a Kentucky State University student with sophomore status or above.
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.8 and a 3.0 GPA in the subject being tutored.
- Familiarity with and interest in working with economically and educationally disadvantaged youth.
- Preference will be given to individuals who have overcome similar socioeconomic disadvantages.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Moderate walking required.
- Office environment with occasional off-site trips.
- Travel required for field trips and other program activities.
