What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Custodian – 1st Shift position at Kentwood Public Schools?
- Performs regular custodial duties in assigned area of building.
- Personally makes routine repairs and/or reports need for repairs, supplies, equipment and services in writing to the Plant Services Department.
- Responsible for preparation and services necessary for events and activities. Maintains inventory of custodial/maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Assist with set up and clean up of cafeteria program.
- Shovels snow and salt walks as needed.
- Maintains buildings and grounds security by opening/closing the building each school day and during special events, as directed.
- Be on call as needed for emergency repairs, equipment monitoring, overtime, or special needs falling outside of the normal working hours.
- The ability to complete your daily work, plus accommodate the students, parents,administration and staff.
- Required to use ladders in the course of the daily duties and personnel lifts for service work of equipment and fixtures.
- Projects a positive image for Kentwood Public Schools with his/her team, whenever the public, guests or visitors are in the building.
- Works closely with the Building Manager and/or administrators to be prepared for scheduled evening activities as needed, and unscheduled events.
- Responsible for proper heating, ventilating and lighting of the building.
- Responsible for the general repair, maintenance of educational equipment, heating ventilating units, lighting, plumbing and other school equipment (except for equipment that is under contract by outside repair firms).
- Responsible to maintain an established preventive maintenance program to include associated records. The PM program will identify daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly duties.
- If the principal has a singular duty and he/she communicates directly with you, you are advised to complete the duty as that person has requested. If it is to become part of your daily duties then it must be assigned through the Associate Director of Plant Services.
- There is a high probability that contact with Bloodborne material will occur within your daily duties.
- All duties and procedure are to be performed within health safety standards as per OSHA and MIOSHA and school district emergency procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Plant Services or his/her designee.
