What You Will Do
The Customer Development Manager is the key representative responsible for the customer relationship for assigned categories. They are accountable to execute strategies and develop tactics that align with customer strategies to deliver shipment goals, consumption sales objectives, and share goals. The CDM collaborates with both internal and external partners to develop and execute customer-specific business plans that support and are aligned to customer and marketing strategies. This role owns key priorities to track progress and adjusts the plan as needed to deliver results. The CDM runs a trade promotional budget for efficient ROI and ensures internal/external alignment, while growing and maintaining relationships with key partners. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to-
- Developing and executing business plans to deliver sales results, including improved volume potential, increased merchandising effectiveness, growth of product group(s), and brand share
- Leading annual business planning process within assigned account(s)
- The CDM uses business analytics to influence customer and company decision making at top-to-top levels; utilizing internal/customer business systems to develop and improve plans (i.e., LYNX)
- Regularly reconciles payments and updates promotional plans to remain within budget
- Serves as “voice of customer” to the company to address customer needs and accomplish goals and objectives, including launch of new items and optimal 4P execution. Influencing across the organization to ensure full alignment to the customer/company business plan and drive long-term business objectives
- Managing trade spend to stay within budget and to improve ROI; creating, establishing and/or running customer-specific scorecards to monitor sales progress and identify and close sales gaps
- Responsibility for accurate forecasting of monthly sales by franchise and/or brand and special packs/displays
- Acts in the role of primary point of contact for a category or categories with the customer and meets frequently with buyers to discuss tactical matters such as progress to goals, promotional initiatives, issues and competitive threats
- Bachelor’s degree required
- A minimum of five years prior CPG sales-related experience required
- Ability to interpret and communicate complex business data
- Ability to prioritize and work effectively within a fast paced, complex matrix environment
- Ability to handle conflict and negotiate successfully
- Demonstrated ability to build strong business relationships
- This person will sit out of Cumberland, RI and the position will require up to 25% travel
- Broad experience across sales, analytics, trade, and category roles is preferred
- Analytical background, and/or category management experience preferred
- Preference for syndicated data experience such as IRI/Nielsen
- Experience working with a top retailer (i.e. Walgreens, Walmart, Target, CVS)
- Annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $97,000 - $167,900. This takes into account a number of factors including work location, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level & other job-related factors.
