Job Description
Perform routine chemical, physical and microbiological analyses to monitor product quality from grape through bottling of the finished wine.
- Sample juices, fermenting musts and wines for analysis and tasting.
- Perform all routine wet chemical/physical analyses on grapes, fermenting musts and wines during harvest, bottling and storage.
- Conduct bench trials for blending, fining and additions.
- Monitor daily fermentations and perform brix checks.
- Assist with harvest chemical additions and inoculations.
- Utilize pumps and hoses following standard cellar practices for chemical additions.
- Analyze samples to ensure wine meets legal and quality requirements.
- Complete daily bottling start-up analysis.
- Maintain accurate records of data for juices, wines, microbiological work and bottling samples.
- Input wine/juice analysis into the Winemaker's Database program.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong chemistry skills required to run analysis.
- Prior experience working in a professional lab environment is essential.
- Understanding of industry standards and ability to communicate deviations.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
- Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
- Standing for up to 3 hours may be necessary.
- Work involves repetition with high demands for speed, accuracy and precision.
