Mechanical Electrician
Performs inspection, installation, service maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems on locomotives and coaches. Accountable for the prompt completion of electrical duties, and other similar / related duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge and Experience :
High school diploma or equivalent preferredElectro-mechanical job experience, journeyman license, apprentice position, or other related applicable experience preferred (, automotive / aircraft / railroad industrial troubleshooting and repair)Works with Alternating and Direct (AC / DC) Electrical Current at both low voltage and high voltage levelsUnderstands and respects the dangers of working with large batteries, capacitors, contactors, etc.Skills :
Demonstrated ability to Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment Read and interpret electrical schematicsDiagnose and troubleshoot electrical circuits and equipmentExercise judgment in the selection of proper tools, methods, and equipment.Read / understand written / verbal instructions for successful completion of equipment upgrades and modificationsExercises familiarity with specialty electrical tooling and electrical meters with proven ability to use such toolingMust possess strong oral, written communication, and interpersonal skillsAble to learn in a classroom and / or shop floor settingKey Accountabilities (Essential Job Duties) :
Demonstrates understanding and adheres to the KCS principles of Employee Engagement, Operational Excellence, Safety & Security, and Economic PerformanceCompletes all work in compliance with FRA, OSHA, MBTA, KCS, and other local, state, and federal authoritiesInstalls, inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs all electrical circuits, conduits, components and systems within railroad locomotives and passenger coaches, as designated by the KCS Mechanical Department managementEstablishes and maintains an effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, and all other KCS personnelSuccessfully communicates with a variety of disciplines at all levels with both internal and external staffPerforms other related duties as assigned in normal operation and / or in emergenciesSafely performs all duties without risk of injury to yourself or othersComplies with all related safety rules and procedures including reporting hazards as requiredDocuments job tasks and work performed manually or electronically and submitted as requiredAttends and participates in all assigned trainingCompletes other duties as assignedRequirements :
A valid driver’s license is required to successfully travel throughout the Commuter Rail network and locations as assigned.Working Conditions (including Physical Demands) :
Mechanical shop-based workWork can be in small and enclosed workspacesThis position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, climb ladders, talk and listen, lift (up to 50 pounds) and reach with both hands and both armsMust be able to travel and work at all hours and at all commuter rail locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, in all weather conditionsPosition requires ability to climb onto rail equipmentClose vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are also requiredThe position will be exposed to loud environments, outdoor weather, fumes, or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and electricity
