CAFETERIA WORKER II
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, to prepare, serve and sell foods; to assist in the cleaning of the kitchen, serving areas, utensils and equipment; and to do other related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
1. Prepares and orders or assists in ordering food for serving;
2. Serves and sells hot and cold foods;
3. Washes and stores utensils, containers and trays;
4. Compiles the daily cafeteria reports, i.e. standardized district daily meal production report, temperature log, etc.;
5. Assists in maintaining a safe, clean and sanitary cafeteria facility;
6. Assists in the preparation, cooking, and baking of a variety of meals for serving;
7. Monitors and maintains food temperatures to ensure food safety during cooking, holding, cooling, and storage;
8. Maintains simple records as required;
9. Assists in maintaining the kitchen and serving areas in a neat, clean, safe and sanitary condition;
10. Reports any perceived or potential equipment defects in a time efficient manner to the manager and Child Nutrition office;
11. May conduct food service activities in the long term absence of the Cafeteria . i.e. procuring of food and supplies from warehouse or other direct vendor drops, assigning and overseeing the work of the other food service site employees, ensuring that menus are prepared nutritionally adequate to meet USDA guidelines, and conducting inventory of food and supplies on site;
12. May use point of sale equipment / machinery;
13. May act as cashier.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Maintaining high quality food preparation in large quantities;
Operation and use of all food service equipment used at district sites;
Proper use and maintenance of equipment;
Sanitation and safety standards;
Applicable county, state, and federal school food service regulations;
Basic arithmetical calculations and measurements.
Ability to:
Adhere to the menus and to standard recipes in the preparation of salads, salad dressings, sauces and simple desserts;
Apply principals of food service, sanitation and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system in daily activities;
Follow standards of food and nutrition excellence into daily operations;
Operate and maintain cafeteria equipment;
Maintain accurate production records to ensure accountability;
Collect money and make change accurately;
Work quickly and efficiently;
Methods and procedures for serving and selling food;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
Establish and maintain cooperative, positive working relationships;
Routinely and correctly lift and carry weights up to but not to exceed 35 pounds;
Maintain appropriate food handler permits.
Experience:
One year of quantity food preparation, service and kitchen maintenance in a commercial, institutional or school food service facility.
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training in food preparation, safety, sanitation or other related areas.
Valid food handler card, preferred;
Valid ServSafe food safety certificate preferred
