INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE II (Bilingual)
DEFINITION
Under general supervision of the Site Administrator, to perform a variety of instructional activities to assist in the instructional support of English language learner students; to perform supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and to do other related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
1. Assists instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials;
2. Tutors individual students and small groups of students, using a second language as needed, to reinforce and follow up learning activities;
3. Monitors and assists students in independent practice and as a follow up to the presentation of concepts by instructional personnel;
4. Assists in the shaping of appropriate social behaviors;
5. Assists in the management of student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies and techniques;
6. Assists in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials;
7. Maintains a variety of records and files, including data collection and confidential student records, and information;
8. Administers and scores student language assessments to determine a student’s individual needs;
9. Confers, as needed, with the teacher(s), support staff, and other school personnel concerning programs and materials to meet student needs, and alerts teacher to any special circumstances and/or information concerning students’ behavior and/or needs;
10. Supports instructional staff during student testing;
11. Administers routine first aid and requests appropriate assistance for serious injury or illness;
12. Participates, as requested, in parent conferences;
13. Attends to the physical and health needs of children, including toileting;
14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic concepts of child growth and development and developmental behavioral characteristics; Student behavior management strategies and technique
Appr Experience:
- One year of paid or volunteer experience working with multi-age groups of children.
Education:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent;
- Completed two years at an institution of higher education or obtained an associate’s or higher degree (or have met a rigorous standard of quality, and can demonstrate through a formal state or local assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing);
- Prefer Standard First Aid card
