What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Recovery Specialist I/II position at Kern County?
Bi-Weekly Salary: Level I: $1,934.80 - $2,312.27, Level II: $2,033.75 - $2,430.52
EXAMINATION SCHEDULE:Qualified candidates will be notified of the testing date five days prior to the examination.
Examinations: Written Exam (Weight 100%): May include knowledge of terminology and diagnosis in mental health and substance abuse, child and adolescent development, case management, interviewing and counseling techniques, basic mental health laws, community resources and other relevant subjects.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:
Level I: Completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Behavioral Science, Social Work or a related field. If the degree is not in a related field, coursework must have included 12 semester or 16 quarter units in the behavioral sciences OR completion of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university AND two (2) years of full time paid experience working in a social service agency, including one (1) year providing services to the mentally ill in a mental health setting; OR possession of a valid license as a Psychiatric Technician or Vocational Nurse issued by the state of California AND two (2) years of full time paid experience working with the chronically mental ill in a mental health setting.
Level II: Completion of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Social Work or related field; OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Behavioral Science, Social Work or related field AND one (1) year of full time, paid experience working with the chronically mentally ill in a mental health setting; If the degree is not in a related field, coursework must have included 12 semester or 16 quarter units in the behavioral sciences. This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates are encouraged to indicate acceptable geographical locations in which they would accept employment on their application form. Candidates MUST be willing to travel to these locations (areas/district offices).
