What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervising Engineer position at Kern County?
Examinations:
Appraisal (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of evaluating the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position. Appraisal can be based on any combination of the following: Investigating, oral exam and rating of the application.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Should an oral exam be necessary, the oral exam will be weighted 100%.
Minimum Qualifications/ Employment Standards:
- A Registered Professional in the State of California in one of the following specialties: Land Surveyor, Traffic Engineer, Civil Engineer, Architect or Geologist
- Two (2) years of experience within area of registration. Applicants may substitute equivalent valid Professional Registration from another state in lieu of the State of California registration.
- Successful applicants shall obtain the Professional registration from the State of California within 12 months of the date of appointment. Failure to obtain the registration will result in immediate termination.
Additional Requirements which may be contingent on assignment:
- Valid Registration in the State of California as a Licensed Land Surveyor
- Valid Registration in the State of California as a Professional Civil Engineer
- Valid Registration in the State of California as a Professional Traffic Engineer
- Valid Registration in the State of California as a Registered Geologist
- Valid Registration in the State of California as a Licensed Architect
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License
- Some positions may require additional certifications for the assignment.

Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.
A background check may be conducted for this classification.
Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which an immediate appointment will be made at the Public Works Department. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed.
Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
