Kern Energy is seeking a Mechanical Integrity Manager to lead efforts in optimizing mechanical asset reliability, minimizing unplanned shutdowns, and driving continuous improvement to support daily production goals. This role is responsible for assessing refinery equipment using predictive inspection techniques to anticipate end-of-life concerns, implementing risk reduction strategies to enhance plant safety and capital investment effectiveness, and collaborating across departments to improve equipment longevity through expertise in metallurgy and failure mechanisms. Job Function
- Ensure on-time inspections of fixed equipment, piping, PSVs, heaters, boilers, and critical check valves.
- Perform equipment assessment and replacements ensuring there is a proactive approach, and maximize value through data-driven decision-making.
- Develop and implement maintenance and repair programs to prevent equipment failures and extend the lifespan of equipment.
- Act as the owner of Kern’s IDMS and ensure that all assets are entered in and it is kept up to date. Interface with a software company, and act as software owner.
- Provide metallurgy/materials recommendations, and develop DMRs, MSRs, and MSDs.
- Leadership of inspectors and other reliability engineering group teammates.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, templates/inspection report templates, deficiency resolution policies, RBI policy, and procedure.
- Verify, correct, and update refinery fixed equipment documentation on an as-needed basis.
- Perform engineering calculations to determine the fitness-for-service of equipment and systems (levels 1 and 2, oversee third party when level 3 needed).
- Develop, track, and report on department KPIs.
- Maintain current and up-to-date knowledge of industry learnings related to fixed equipment mechanical integrity.
- Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve equipment and system issues.
- Provide training and technical guidance to other engineers and technicians.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills
- API 579, API 580, API 510, API 570, API 653 any combination, 2 required, more preferred.
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) designation preferred.
- Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) designation preferred.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) designation preferred.
- Strong communication, both written and verbal. Public speaking and report writing are desirable.
- Policy, procedure, and template development experience are desirable.
- Strong understanding of relevant API, ASME, NACE codes and standards as well as industry best practices related to fixed equipment mechanical integrity.
- Working knowledge of Metegrity Visions IDMS or equivalent system. Advanced knowledge preferred.
- Working knowledge of InforEAM CMMS or equivalent system preferred.
- High-level understanding of refinery operations and economics.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Leadership and management.
- Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel and Project.
Education/ Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Metallurgy, or Materials Engineering or similar.
- Ten plus (10 ) years of progressive experience in a mechanical integrity role in the refining industry.
- Experience as an inspector or fixed equipment engineer is preferable.
Salary : $135,000 - $190,000
