Position Summary
Kern Energy is Hiring a Laborer to work in the Maintenance Department, maintaining refinery equipment and property. This position will work with other disciplines and departments within the company to achieve the goals of operating a safe and environmentally compliant refinery. Job Function
- Perform routine maintenance tasks at the refinery, such as gathering materials, cleaning up trash, refueling equipment, painting, assembling, moving, and installing furniture, file cabinets, and document boxes.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization in the refinery area, including removing debris, cleaning equipment, and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Work as part of a team and collaborate with other refinery staff, including pipe fitters, mechanics, welders, crane operators, and I/E techs as needed. Effective communication skills are necessary to relay information, report issues, and coordinate tasks.
- Assist with equipment repairs such as piping, pumps, vessels, exchangers, boilers, etc.
- Conduct routine inspections, replace faulty parts, and perform basic maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of machinery.
- Maintain accurate records and logbooks of equipment readings, production data, and operational activities such as status and completion of work orders.
- They may also prepare reports on production levels, equipment performance, and any incidents or abnormalities.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents, such as wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), following proper procedures, and participating in safety training programs.
- Provide support during turnarounds.
- Willingness to take initiative to assist wherever needed in the refinery
- Willing to work overtime and receive callouts as needed.
- Willing to work nights and potential inclement weather and in an industrial environment as needed.
- Document information in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Knowledge Skills
- Basic understanding of refinery processes and operations, including the refining of crude oil, distillation, separation, conversion, and product blending.
- Familiarity with different types of equipment and their functions.
- Basic mechanical aptitude is necessary to understand equipment operation, perform routine maintenance tasks, and troubleshoot minor issues.
- Strong analytical skills help identify trends, deviations, and abnormalities and take appropriate actions based on data analysis.
- Ability to identify and solve problems that may arise during equipment operation or in the refining process. This involves critical thinking, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to make quick decisions to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to adapt and be flexible in their approach, adjust to evolving circumstances, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
